Professional boundaries in digital spaces — for the practice and for clients and training participants

Whole Thread Therapy maintains an active professional presence on social media and produces regular public content — including psychoeducation, advocacy writing, and CPD-related material — across LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. This policy sets out how that professional presence is managed, how online boundaries are maintained with clients and training participants, and what is expected of participants in online training spaces.

The practitioner's online presence

All public content produced by Whole Thread Therapy is professional in nature and purpose. It represents the practice's values, areas of specialism, and professional positions — not the personal life of the practitioner. The distinction between practice-facing and personal social media accounts is maintained.

Accuracy and professional responsibility

• All public content — posts, blogs, course descriptions, and psychoeducational resources — is produced with care for accuracy and is reviewed against current evidence and community-informed understandings
• Content does not make clinical claims that cannot be substantiated, does not constitute therapy or advice to individual followers, and does not reproduce deficit-model framings of neurodivergent or other identities
• Where the practice expresses a professional position on a contested topic, this is clearly framed as such
• The practice's use of identity-first language and its position on neurodivergence are maintained consistently across all public content

Endorsements and affiliations

Whole Thread Therapy does not accept paid promotions or endorsements that are undisclosed, and does not allow third parties to use its name or content in ways that imply a formal affiliation without explicit written agreement.

Boundaries with therapy clients

The therapeutic relationship requires clear boundaries in all spaces, including digital ones. The following apply from the point of initial enquiry through to the end of therapeutic work and beyond.

• Whole Thread Therapy will not follow, request to follow, or interact with clients' personal social media accounts — this applies even if the client invites this
• If a client follows the practice's professional accounts, this is not acknowledged or reciprocated, and is not discussed in sessions unless the client raises it
• Clients are asked not to contact the practitioner via social media for anything relating to their therapy — all session-related contact should be by email or phone
• If a client sends a direct message via social media, the practitioner will not engage with clinical content through that channel and will redirect to the appropriate contact method
• The practitioner does not seek out or look up clients on social media

Boundaries with CPD training participants

The training relationship between professional peers carries different dynamics to therapy, but online boundaries still apply during and after course delivery.

• Whole Thread Therapy may connect professionally with past CPD participants on professional networks such as LinkedIn, where this is clearly a peer professional connection rather than an ongoing training or clinical relationship
• Participants are welcome to follow and engage with Whole Thread Therapy's professional social media content
• Participants should not contact the practitioner via social media for anything relating to their course booking, certification, or a complaint — all course-related contact should be by email

Online training spaces: participant conduct

CPD training delivered by Whole Thread Therapy takes place in online group spaces. The following apply to all participants.

Recording and sharing

• Sessions must not be recorded by participants without explicit written consent from the practitioner and all other participants present
• Course materials — including slides, handouts, and any digital resources — are provided for the personal CPD use of the individual participant and must not be reproduced, redistributed, or used in commercial training delivery without written permission
• Screenshots of other participants, or of screen-shared content, must not be taken or shared

Confidentiality within training groups

• Where participants share clinical material, personal experience, or reflections during a training session, this is held in confidence by all present — what is shared in the room stays in the room
• Participants should not share identifiable information about clients or third parties in a training context

Raising a concern about online conduct

If you have a concern about how Whole Thread Therapy has conducted itself online — including in relation to content accuracy, professional boundaries, or the handling of online communications — please raise this using the relevant complaints process.
